We, the family of the late Des, wish to extend our deep gratitude and warmest thanks to everyone who offered their condolences, prayers, and support during our recent sad bereavement. Des was an integral part of the local community and was widely respected by all who knew him. He was the beloved son of the late Thomas and Winifred, the dearly loved brother of Eamon (Kathleen RIP), Kathleen Blacker (John) and the late Una Toal (John RIP), Tony (Pauline) and Tommy (Agnes RIP), an adored uncle to his many nieces and nephews and a very dear friend to many.

Thank you to everyone who called to the wake in Grianan House Funeral Home, especially those who gave so generously of their time to help with serving tea and to those who brought food, this was greatly appreciated. Our thanks also to those who sent Mass or Sympathy cards, expressed their condolences with messages online or via social media, and to those who sent flowers. Thank you to those who lined the funeral route or who joined us for the beautiful Requiem Mass in St Lawrence’s Church in Fintona, especially those who travelled long distances.

We are so blessed and thankful to have had the love and support of our family, friends, neighbours and the work colleagues throughout this difficult time. Your support has helped our family in so many ways to find strength and to celebrate and give thanks for Des’ life.

A special word of thanks to Father Seán Mulligan for his spiritual guidance and support of Des during his illness, and for celebrating the beautiful requiem Mass. Our thanks also to the Sacristan and everyone who took part in the Liturgy, especially our readers, gift bearers and our musicians Sinead Taggart and Plunkett McGartland for providing the beautiful and uplifting music which added so much to the funeral service.

Thank you to McAtee Funeral Directors for the dignified and professional manner in which the funeral arrangements were carried out and to the gravedigger Brendan for preparing Des’s final resting place. Our thanks also to Roisin of Nettles and Petals for the lovely floral tribute and to the Bridge Tavern for the very welcome refreshments after the burial.

And finally, we send our sincere thanks and appreciation to all the medical professionals with whom Des came into contact; especially all the staff in the Palliative Care Ward in Omagh Hospital. We are very grateful for the kindness and respect shown to him, and for the support given to our family

As it would be impossible to thank everyone individually, please accept this acknowledgement as a gesture of our family’s deepest gratitude to all those who supported Des during his life and who helped in any way during the wake and funeral.

Des was greatly loved by his family and by everyone who knew him, and he will be very sadly missed. May his passionate, kind and generous soul be granted peace and eternal rest. Des’s Month’s Mind Mass will be celebrated in St Lawrence’s Church in Fintona on the third day of October at 6pm. Our Lady, pray for him.
