Dermot King & Vera King
Carryglass Road, Fintona.
Died 28th & 29th March 2026 respectively.
We the family of the late Dermot and Vera wish to extend our deep gratitude and warmest thanks to everyone who offered their condolences, prayers, and support during our recent sad bereavements. Dermot and Vera were an integral part of the Fintona community and were widely respected by all who knew them. But primarily Dermot was the devoted son of Sean and the late Vera, precious brother of Barry and the late Maurice and partner of Mary, nephew, cousin and friend. Vera was the devoted wife of Sean, adored mother of Barry and the late Dermot and late Maurice. Dearly loved sister of Pat (late Mac), Anna (Artie), Dympna (late Seamus), Jim (Una), Gerry (Marjorie) and the late Rita (late Bernard), Mary and Philip and a much loved aunt and very dear friend to many.
Their lives were probably best reflected by the outpouring of support on social media where they bridged the generations, as they had done throughout their lives. The anecdotes and tributes shared by so many people gave some indication of the rich tapestry that was both Dermot and Vera’s lives and the impact they made on all whom they met.
Thank you to everyone who called to the wake in Grianan House Funeral Home, and to those who brought food or served drinks and gave so generously of their time to help, this was greatly appreciated. Our thanks also to those who sent Mass or Sympathy cards, flowers or donations in lieu, and to those who expressed their condolences with messages online or via social media, lined the funeral route or who joined us for the beautiful Requiem Mass in St. Lawrence’s Church, especially those who travelled long distances.
We are so blessed and thankful to have had the love and support of our family, friends, work colleagues, neighbours and the wider community throughout this difficult time. Your support has helped our family in so many ways to find strength to grieve as a family.
A special word of thanks to Very Rev. Fr Seán Mulligan P.P. for his spiritual guidance and support and also for attending to Vera’s spiritual needs at home, for which we are very grateful. We convey our deep appreciation to Fr. Seán for celebrating the very comforting and beautiful requiem Mass. Our thanks also to the Sacristan and everyone who took part in the Liturgy, especially our readers, gift bearers and our musicians Fergal McAloon and Stevie Corrigan who provided the beautiful, reverent and uplifting music, which added so much warmth to the funeral service.
We would also like to thank both the Fintona Fire Brigade and Fintona Pearses GAA for providing their guards of honour. Both Dermot and Vera would have greatly appreciated this, and it meant a lot to us as a family.
Thank you to McAtee Funeral Directors for the dignified and professional manner in which the funeral arrangements were carried out, and to the gravedigger Tommy for preparing both Dermot and Vera’s final resting place. Our thanks also to Roisin of Nettles and Petals for the lovely floral tribute and to the St Patrick’s Hall ladies for the very welcome refreshments after the funeral.
Finally, we send our sincere thanks and deep appreciation to all the health professionals with whom both Dermot and Vera came into contact. We extend our gratitude to them for their care and professionalism, and for the respect and kindness shown to them both, which was greatly appreciated.
Our family would like to thank the community and all our friends for their unwavering support and care shown at this difficult time. As it would be impossible to thank everyone individually, please accept this acknowledgement as a gesture of our family’s deepest gratitude to all those who supported Dermot and Vera during their lifetimes and to all who helped in any way during the wake and funeral.
Dermot and Vera were greatly loved by their family and by everyone who knew them, and they will be very sadly missed. May their humble, kind and generous souls be granted peace and eternal rest. A joint Month’s Mind Mass for Dermot and Vera will be celebrated in St. Lawrence’s Church, Fintona on Friday 1st May at 7.30pm. Our Lady pray for them.
