Sean Monteith, Omagh, Co Tyrone.
Died 11th November 2025.
Sean passed away peacefully on the 11th November after a long and industrious life. He was a widely respected, hard-working gentleman and a valued member of the community but primarily he was very much a family man. Devoted husband of the late Catherine (Kate), treasured father of David (Claire) and Gary (Jill). Loving and devoted grandfather of Alex and Leah, and a much-loved brother, brother-in-law, uncle and friend. We, his family wish to express our sincere appreciation and heartfelt thanks to all those who sympathised, prayed for and supported us through our recent sad bereavement.
We would like to acknowledge the many gestures of sympathy we received. We are grateful for every Mass and sympathy card, telephone call, online and social media message. We especially wish to thank everyone who called to the wake in Grianan House Funeral Home and those who helped at the wake. Our sincere thanks also to everyone who joined us at the requiem Mass especially those that travelled long distances to be there.
We are blessed to have had the love and support of our family, friends, neighbours, and work colleagues throughout this difficult time. Your kindness has helped us in so many ways, allowing us to grieve and find strength together as a family.
A special word of thanks to Father Seán Mulligan P.P. for his spiritual support in our hour of need and Father Thomas Canning SMA for the very comforting Requiem Mass. We convey our appreciation also to the Sacristan and everyone who took part in the Liturgy, especially our singer Donna Taggart and her accompanist who provided the beautiful and reverent music.
Thank you to Pat and Vincent of McAtee Funeral Directors for the dignified and professional manner in which the funeral arrangements were carried out and to the gravediggers for preparing Sean’s final resting place. Thanks also to Nettles & Petals for the flowers, and to Mark McBride and staff in St. Joseph’s Hall for the most welcome refreshments after the burial.
Finally, we wish to convey our sincerest thanks to the many carers and medical staff who tended to Sean during his final years and all those that took the time and effort to visit him at home during that time. We’d like to thank Mickey Meenagh (Hughie Ruadh’s) for the homely meals that he provided along with the accompanying banter which Dad appreciated so much. We are indebted also to his cousin Margaret who helped him out greatly during the pandemic and to Anne and Siobhan who were such kind and helpful neighbours to Dad over the last few years. Thanks also to the McCrea family for all their help with appointments recently and to Edwina for the many phone calls she made on his behalf. We’d also like to express our gratitude to Mary McGlone (Eucharistic minister) and to Anne Monteith for her invaluable help and guidance throughout. We are very grateful for the kindness and respect that you all showed to him.
As it would be impossible to thank everyone individually, please accept this acknowledgement as a gesture of our family’s deepest gratitude.
Sean is loved and greatly missed every day. May his passionate, kind, generous soul be granted peace and eternal rest. His Month’s Mind Mass will be celebrated in Sacred Heart Church, Omagh on Friday 12th December at 7.30pm. Our Lady pray for him.

I’m saddened to read about Sean’s passing. He was a real gentleman and a proud family man. I first met him and Kate when they lived in Bolton and paid frequent visits to see Sheila and Michael Jordon. That would have been in the late 1960s. I would be with Sheila’s sister Margaret who later became my wife.
I well remember my many trips to Co Tyrone with Margaret and our very pleasant get together a with the wider Monteith family. RIP Sean
